Lowline –
A Heritage
Beef Cattle Breed

Lowline, from the officially registered breed name, Australian Lowline, are unique in the cattle world. With a pure Aberdeen Angus ancestry, they are one of the few breeds that retain pure genetics from the original herds in their country of origin. These cattle are descendants of the Aberdeen Angus cattle imported into the Trangie Research Centre, in 1929 by the NSW Agricultural Department. In 1974 Trangie began a feed conversion trial which ran for 19 years. Cattle purchased from the dispersal sale became “Australian Lowline” a couple of years later. They are compact cattle producing excellent quality beef. All registered Lowlines must be DNA tested and can be linked back to the original genetics. With changing climate, producers wanting efficiency; and consumers preferring a healthy, more sustainable option, Lowlines tick all the boxes. For more information on Lowlines, please check out the Australian Lowline Cattle Association website.

Having proven their suitability and viability within the commercial beef sector whilst also being ideally suited to the lifestyle farmer, Australian Lowlines are the breed of choice for many! Compact beefy cattle on a moderate frame!

Bred for functionality, conformation and performance from paddock to plate, this heritage beef breed is renowned for docility and when combined with their unique Angus heritage, this results in a product that is high quality, delicious and tender.

Lowlines are naturally polled so there is no need for dehorning. In addition, most producers of Certified Lowline Beef are small scale farmers that invest a lot in the welfare of their stock. We are passionate about the animals and the breed. We don’t use added hormones or mass production techniques and all our animals are grass fed.

Australian Lowline Cattle is generally 30% smaller than a standard Aberdeen Angus.

Australian Lowline beef is equal to the very best Angus beef, plus 30% more rib-eye than any other breed, and smaller, well-marbled, family-sized portions. Because the animals are smaller, the beef is more finely grained and exceptionally tender. There is even a health benefit, a higher mono-unsaturated/saturated fat ratio (good in itself) which includes CLA, omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, shown to have positive benefits in heart disease, diabetes and asthma. And because Australian Lowline carcasses are smaller, they fit more easily into your freezer, so you don’t need to give so much away to your mother.
